Comparison

Fractional RevOps against a fractional CRO

One fixes the system the number runs on. The other runs the number.

The short answerA fractional CRO carries revenue leadership: strategy, pricing, team structure, quota, hiring and coaching. A fractional RevOps operator carries the system those decisions depend on. They solve different problems and often work together, but if your forecast is wrong because your stages mean different things, a CRO cannot fix that from the front.

Where each one earns its money

A fractional CRO is worth it when strategy, pricing or team structure is the constraint, or when the founder is still running sales and needs a senior voice.

Fractional RevOps is worth it when the decisions are fine but the data underneath them is not trusted.

They frequently need each other

A CRO with no reliable pipeline data is making calls on a feeling. An operator with no commercial direction fixes plumbing nobody prioritised. The pairing is common in companies between 50 and 250 people.

Questions

Do I need a fractional CRO or fractional RevOps?

If the strategy is unclear, a CRO. If the strategy is clear but the numbers are not trusted, RevOps.

Can one person do both?

Rarely well. They are different jobs and different temperaments.

Which is cheaper?

Fractional RevOps, substantially. Leadership time is priced higher than operator time in every market I have seen.

Can the diagnostic tell me which I need?

Yes, and it costs nothing. The report describes what is broken, which usually makes the answer obvious.

Want to talk it through?

Leave an email and I will reply myself, usually the same day. No sequence, no newsletter, and no calendar link unless you ask for one.

One reply from a person. Nothing else.

Got it. You will hear from hello@sapwood.io.
