Fractional RevOps means a senior revenue operations leader working part time across a small number of companies, typically for $3,000 to $15,000 per month. It suits companies between roughly $2M and $25M ARR that need senior judgment without a $180,000 salary. Below about 50 people, a fixed scope project is usually cheaper and more useful than a retainer.

When it makes sense

You need the work done, not advised on

Much of the fractional market is a monthly call and a follow up email. If you need someone in the system building, ask what they will have shipped by week two.

You cannot justify a full time hire yet

Below roughly 50 people, a full time RevOps salary is hard to defend and the role is hard to scope. Fixed scope work is usually the better first step.

You have a specific broken thing

Attribution, forecasting, routing, renewals. A defined problem is cheaper to fix under a retainer than under an open ended retainer.

You want to own what gets built

Ask where the workflows live after handoff and whether your team can change an automation without calling the provider back. That answer separates infrastructure from rented capacity.

Think you might need a project instead?

If you can name the problem, a fixed scope engagement is almost always cheaper than a retainer. Every price is published so you can check.

What we do differently

Fixed scope before fractional

Most companies under 50 people do not need ongoing leadership. They need three specific things fixed. We price those as projects, not as a retainer.

Month to month when you do want ongoing help

$2,000 a month.

The person doing the work is the person you talk to

No account manager, no junior delivery resource learning on your system.

Questions

What is fractional RevOps?

A senior revenue operations leader working part time, usually 5 to 20 hours per week, across one or two companies. It covers strategy, CRM architecture, reporting, and process, without a full time hire.

How much does fractional RevOps cost?

Typically $3,000 to $15,000 per month depending on scope and seniority, often with a three month minimum. Sapwood charges $2,000 a month.

When should you not hire fractional RevOps?

When you have one defined problem. A retainer is the wrong instrument for a CRM rebuild or an attribution fix. Those are scoped inside the retainer with an end date.

Fractional RevOps or a RevOps agency?

Fractional means one senior person. An agency means a coordinated team, which costs more and adds coordination overhead. For companies under 50 people, one senior operator is almost always the better value.

What should I ask before hiring one?

Ask what they will have shipped by week two, where the documentation will live, whether your team can modify the automations after handoff, and whether they take commissions from software vendors.
